The Chicago White Sox were not no hit or perfect game’d by Garrett Crochet today, but instead scored their only run off a different Garrett (well, technically, of the same Garrett, but earned runs are fake). Also Cal Raleigh hit another torpedo bat home run.
This episode, Kory (@taiikumenco) leads Chris (@gokuffy) and Chris (@antoniuspius) through Kim Hyun-seok’s YMCA Baseball Team and Isao Takahata’s Pom Poko.
- Talent for the Game is written by David Himmelstein, writer for Soul of the Game and Village of the Damned, which was the connection I mentioned on the podcast.
- I have also looked up when baseball glove usage began, which according to Wikipedia was 1875 by Charlie Waitt, which at the time were leather gloves with the fingertips cut off to allow for bare-handed control with more padding. In the 1890s, glove usage for fielders become commonplace.
- Here is a TikTok where, at the beginning, you see Ichiro being pissed that Korea is planting the flag on the mound, a detail I forgot while recording.
